McLaren MP4-12C, McLaren Automotive Reveals Details of its Next Generation of Prototypes
By Dave | February 23, 2010
With the McLaren MP4-12C’s development entering its final phase, McLaren Automotive has released this video of the latest Experimental Prototypes (XP) undergoing a series of driving tests in Spain’s Applus IDIADA facility and on public roads near Tarragona.

McLaren MP4-12C Testing in Spain
The XP8 and XP10, two XP Beta-phase prototypes feature significant technological advancements such as a revised iteration of the M838T twin-turbo engine, a gearbox featuring new gear ratios, a more efficient cooling package, new suspension geometry and upgraded electrics.
McLaren are claiming that the MP4 will have the best combination of road and track abilities of any car currently on sale. They are bound to say that but knowing how McLaren operate I wouldn’t bet against them.
Many thanks to McLaren for providing this video which gives an insight into a performance car testing programme from the perspective of the development team.
Here’s the Video, turn your speakers up or get a good set of headphones to hear that engine. Mark Vinnels, Programme Director New Vehicles and Chris Goodwin, Chief Test Driver explain all…

Consider me hooked. I was on the fence for a while on this car, but that video shows so many angles which, combined with the sounds it makes, converted me.
What a sharp car. Can’t wait to see what the Stig can do with it.

Hi Brian,
Glad you caught this post – I know I need to post more…
I’m hooked too – I just love the Sound and it’s going to look pretty special too.
I reckon it is going to be very high on the Stig’s list – possibly the top. The only thing is I’m not sure it will have the outright power – but it hopefully it will do well as a result of light weight and great handling. Also the fact they are testing it at the Top Gear Circuit indicates it’s going to do well?
Right so now I just need to earn a bit more to get one!
Best wishes – Dave

Brian – I might revise my comments on power – it’s got more than I thought, I think it’s going to be 600bhp…
